What Should Go Here? Vacant Space in the Oak Forest Commons
This week, Patch highlights a vacant storefront in the Oak Forest Commons. The location is next to Papa John's Pizza and shares a parking lot with Food 4 Less.
In the Oak Forest Commons, Food 4 Less draws the lion's share of the customers, but that doesn't mean other businesses in the area don't see customers too. A few doors down from Food 4 Less, a Papa John's Pizza shop thrives, a nail salon works their magic on the tips and toes of residents and several other businesses manage their customers needs as well.
However, in the Commons there are several store fronts sitting vacant, including the location at 5488 W. 159th Street. The shop, located on the far East side of the commons is one of a string of vacant shops, waiting for occupancy.
Located on 159th Street, the Commons sees thousands of cars go by a day, has a vast parking lot and ample opportunity for a business to grow.
So Patch asks, what should go here? Could a small takeout restaurant thrive, maybe a realtor or insurance agent?

The rent for these vacant store fronts are skyhigh!!! I don't know how any "small" business could survive. Good luck renting them out.

Just wondering if the patch could post the rent for these businesses, just curious. Saw you and your cute doggie at the firefighter challenge Saturday, nice to see you around town.

Liz, in this area figure 12.00 TO $19.00 per s/f per year depending on location and condition. Times being what they are most landlords are willing to negotiate and offer very attractive incentives. If they don't?... well the sites remain vacant.
