What Should Go Here? Chicago House of Brews
The City of Oak Forest is in the process of buying the property, also known as the Numero Uno site, on Cicero Avenue.
Whether you know it as the former Chicago House of Brews or the old Numero Uno site, the building at 15426 Cicero Ave. stands empty and waiting for a new occupant to bring it back to life.
The City of Oak Forest is still in the process of buying the property at 15426 S. Cicero Ave. Officials intend to sell the property as part of an effort to reinvest in the community.
Until recently, a sign out front read "Bank Owned Property" and listed contact information for interested buyers.
The area gets plenty of traffic and might be ideal for another restaurant or bar. But what would you like to see go in?
What should go in the old Chicago House of Brews building? Tell us in the comments.

A country western theme bar and grill with live country music-like Toby Keith's Bar and Grill!

I'm not a fan of country music but that actually sounds like a good fit.

Does Toby Keith own a chain of these or is this an idea for a theme restaurant? I think Toby Keith could give back and fund some entrepreneurs.

Imagine if the entertainment industry started giving back and started funding some entrepreneurs with some of their good fortune? Then the economy might possibly start to recover...Besides, how many homes and cars do these people need?

Target! Big Box Store!
Sorry, I thought that was the standard response to these questions.
A restaurant would be a good idea, but it would have to be something that's unique to this area and will draw people to it. You're not going to get any national chains to locate there as there is nothing else around it that would attract people.

If it has to be another restaurant, could we make it a healthy menu? Someplace with food that is good for us would be amazing.

A brewpub would be great. Breweries are a hit all over the country. Beer made in Oak Forest and a good menu would be a big draw.

Scot...if you look, you will see that the last business to fail in this location was...wait for it....Chicago House of Brews!!! A brew pub!!! Does not seem to be that great of an idea.

Scott great Idea!
B.S... A Brew Pub makes and sells the beer it produces, A lot different than a bar that sells lots different beers. House of beers failed soon after it opened, I think other factors were involved in it's demise.
One thing for sure what ever goes in there would most definitely have to be a destination.

I have no idea if this is accurate maybe Scot can check but I seem to remember the previous owners went out of business because they never paid their bills not for lack of patrons. I'm still trying to figure out how the City thinks they are going to be able to sell it if the real estate company can't.

Tear it down,,no business has ever made it in that building. It has an odd layout to the street. Start from scratch.
Also, it is a waste of money to purchase it and seriously think they're going to attract a business in this economy. Just look at the failures at 159th and Cicero. See you in 6 months and we'll see where it's at!

Dave's right. Raze it. It's an architectural nightmare. In order to get in the main dining room, you have to go up a flight of stairs. Not very ADA friendly. It's cursed. Every business that's been in there dies. Numero Uno was the original and it was a miracle that place lasted as long as it did.

Yep..just what the tax payers need....more vacant land to pay taxes on. If they tear it down...expect a tax hike. If a Corp builds there expect a tax break for them and a tax hike for us. We need to promote and support private small businesses

Guess what built the Corporate Oligarchy in Orland? The people of ORLAND PARK...by picking up the tax tab for that giant Corporate mall for years so they could get stronger. We are killing ourselves and we don't even see it. Tax breaks for the mega corps makes them richer and all of us poorer.

I think the city should have had a plan in place for the property BEFORE using our tax dollars to purchase it. Buying this property without having some kind of a plan for what will go there is like putting the cart before the horse. Sure, you have a piece of property now, but no business has wanted that property in the years that it was empty. What makes Oak Forest think that they can move it any better than the professional real estate brokers that tried, and failed, to sell this property in the past.

A tax free neighborhood co-op. Something along the lines of the farmers market where the locals can buy, sell and trade their wares, innovations, etc. Definitely not a Corporation, they are way to greedy.

There are a lot of unemployed Americans who who have new innovative products and inventions they would love to bring to market. We need a lot less boozing and ALOT more innovation. Besides....people don't have a lot of extra money these days to spend in the bars.

tough call in this crappy economy. I know it was uno's for a long time and that failed. there was a ginos on 159th and harlem and that failed, but ginos had a really good deepdish pie. there's nowhere around here with that style. beggars has good pizza, but they got crazy with the prices. what else do we have around here? ginos had the right pizza, but not the same atmosphere as ginos on rush downtown. If they could reproduce the feel, charge realistic prices and provide fast friendly service, they might stand a chance. dicey.

You need to demolish the building. A bar is unneccessary because Blarney Stone is a few buildings down and is an awesome bar that is always packed. So why compete? Put a nice sit down restaurant or maybe a sex shop. Dildos are always in fashion.

That is right on. Many people are in need. Not another Goodwill store though. With this thrift store we would give back to the community. I wonder if the "BANK OWNER" would give it to the community as a GIFT...? Maybe the county would give the property a big tax cut to stimulate the economy...? That would be progress.

Turn it into some sort of nice community center for Seniors. Lunch served, socializing, some game areas. Maybe the township or city could have a small office with limited hours to help advise seniors or their caregivers about different sources for services available. Add a "nurse's closet" where people can donate all used but good shape canes, walkers, etc. and then others could borrow and return.

Why would the city buy this one if they don't have a plan already? Are they not already offering it to a established business with the promise from Dotson and the council for a city grant? (City funds to move into this building!) Not great planning on their part!
