What Should Go Here? Business Space in the Oak Forest Commons

The Oak Forest Commons shopping center has several vacancies. Today, Patch highlights one of the spaces that is ready to be leased.

The Oak Forest Commons shopping center at the corner of Central Avenue and 159th Street features Food 4 Less, several takeout places, a nail salon and more. It also features several vacant storefronts just waiting for the right business to come along and fill the voids.

The vacant business space, located at 15841 Central Avenue, is in unit 5 and features 1,080-square-feet of space. The space next to unit 5, unit 5A, can also be leased and is 1,610 square feet of space. Together the two units would total more than 2,700 square feet of retail space.

Could another takeout spot be the right business for the space, or perhaps a traditional sit-down restaurant? Or maybe some other type of retail store?

I am truly curious to know what these units rent @ per month. Many have been vacant since the construction of the plaza. I have a suspicion that the rent is rather high for the area considering.

The city should do all within its power to lean on real estate owners to increase their occupancy rate. Instead of doling out facade improvments this year, why not use the funds toward rebating discounts to new tenants.

Patch, can you dig up some numbers on these units for us?

I was just saying the other night that the club they approved for teens on 159th and Laramie would be much better in the old Hollywood Video/Game Crazy spot . Much more parking, busier intersection, all windows so you can see whats going on inside, etc.

It's also below street level, far back from 159th and blocked by the gas station.

I agree with Liz,
It is also closer to the police station, and is an area that is much better lit, with less seclusion. The distance from those apartments on 159th is also a plus.

What we really need is another nail salon or cell phone store.
