D228 Teachers to Vote on Contract Today

The Joint Faculty Association and Bremen School District 228 have reached a tentative agreement. A vote by teachers union members will take place Tuesday afternoon.

Following months of negotiations, the Joint Faculty Association and Bremen School District 228 seem to have reached an agreement, leaders from both sides confirmed. District Superintendent Bill Kendall and JFA President Kathleene McNeeley told Patch that a tentative agreement is in place, which would squash any potential of a strike by district teachers.

"A vote is taking place later today," McNeeley said, via email. "The membership will decide whether to accept or decline a contract proposal. It is not a strike authorization vote."

Kendall said that should the union vote to approve the contract, he was hopeful it would go before the D228 Board of Education at its next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. at Oak Forest High School.
