On a typical Friday night at Covenant Park in Oak Forest, the smell of freshly popped popcorn is in the air.

Cheers and sounds of children playing are abundant. It's a night of baseball, where youth teams meet to compete and family and friends in the community gather to watch the boys play and catch up with their neighbors.

"Did you see the game at the high school today?" is a frequently asked question in the stands, a reference to the Oak Forest High School baseball's team's strirring run to a second-place finish in the Class 3A state tournament.

The boys stepped up to bat, probably envisioning themselves playing an IHSA title game some day, too. All-Star rosters have been announced and it's all the buzz. It's a field of dreams.
