Police Issue 78 Citations During Holiday Enforcement Campaign

The second of six traffic campaigns during the 2013 fiscal year yielded 78 traffic citations for Oak Forest drivers during the Christmas and New Year's holiday. Citations were mainly issued for seat belt violations.

Oak Forest drivers kept police busy during the recent holiday season, as police officers issued 78 tickets during the Christmas and New Year's holiday.

According to a press release from the police, tickets were mainly issued for seat belt violations, although tickets were also issued for driver's license and drug paraphernalia violations as well.

The citations were issued as part of the police department's ongoing involvement with the sustained traffic enforcement program funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is the second of six such campaigns during the 2013 fiscal year.

Previously, police issued 90 citations during the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday season, mainly for seat belt violations and failure to properly secure a child.

The campaigns are part of the State's effort to promote safe driving during high traffic times of year with a strong police presence, according to police.

“A highly visible force of officers is intended to remind drivers and their passengers that they need to be buckled up at all times,” said Deputy Police Chief Dominic D’Ambrosio.

Can't wait for the first person to say roadside safety checkpoints are illegal under the Fourth Amendment (rolling eyes).

The first person that said that roadside checkpoints were in violation of the 4th amendment was the same guy that allowed them, Chief Justice Rehnquist.
