Police Blotter: Man Charged Again with Domestic Battery; Woman Scammed Through Craigslist

Oak Forest police reports, Feb. 3-6

MONDAY, FEB. 6

Second Domestic Battery Charge

Joseph P. Rizza, 27, of the 15800 block of Aspen Court in Oak Forest, was charged with domestic battery. A woman told police Rizza punched her in the nose following an argument inside his home around 5 a.m. and then flipped over a love seat, making a mess in the living room. Police said they met with Rizza outside and found the woman sitting inside at a coffee table with “a pool of blood just below her" face.

Rizza was also charged by Oak Forest police with domestic battery in November 2011. Officers advised the woman to seek an order of protection.

SATURDAY, FEB. 4

Stolen Car Parts

Catalytic converters were reported stolen or damaged from four cars parked in a lot in the 16700 block of Cicero Avenue sometime between 4 p.m. Feb. 3 and 9 a.m. Feb. 4. They were:

  • 2001 red Pontiac Montana van
  • 1997 green Dodge Ram 3500 van
  • 2000 white Ford E350 van
  • 2002 white Chevy 3500 van

FRIDAY, FEB. 3

Scammed Through Craigslist

Police said a 37-year-old woman looking to sell her bed for $100 was scammed out of $2,480. In late January, a check arrived for the bed totaling $2,620 from California man. He later apologized for the mistake but apparently asked her to deposit the check and then wire the rest of the money minus the cost of the bed and transfer fees to someone in Texas. She did, according to police, and was notified the next day by her bank that the check had been no good.

Police Blotter information is provided by the Oak Forest Police Department. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.
