Old Times Picnic Set for Sunday
The Oak Forest Park District is ready to host its annual picnic, featuring fun, games food and refreshments at Commissioner's Grove.
For the 34th year, the Oak Forest Park District is ready to give back to the community with its Old Times Family Picnic. The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 2, from noon to dusk.
“It's a time for the community to come together, this is our day where we give back to the town,” said McDonald. “It's our biggest event that we host.”
McDonald said that the free event has a little bit of something for everyone, including games for children and teens, plus live music for adults later in the night. Games available for children and teens include amusement rides, pony rides and a petting zoo. For teens, McDonald highlighted a water balloon toss that will feature small cash prizes for the top two teams.
“We have about four or five kiddie rides, like a train and things like that, those are free to the kids,” McDonald said. “Plus, we do running races and things like that for all ages. It gets a little more complicated the older they get, but it's fun. … Every kid gets a prize.”
For the adults in attendance, Chi-Town DJs will be spinning from noon to 3 p.m., and then The Walk-Ins will hit the stage from 4 p.m. on. In between, families will have a chance to see a performance of “Peter Pan.”
“It's an inexpensive way to spend the to spend the day with your kids or your family,” McDonald said.
