Oak Forest Man Pleads Not Guilty to Strangling Wife, Setting House Ablaze

Martin Rodriguez, the Oak Forest man police say strangled his wife, slashed his own throat and lit their house afire was arraigned Feb. 14, and pleaded not guilty.

 

An Oak Forest man accused of strangling his wife and setting her body and their home on fire pleaded not guilty Feb. 14. 

Martin Rodriguez, 48, allegedly waited until their three children were at school before strangling his wife Erica, slitting his own throat and setting their home on fire Dec. 18. Rodriguez was treated for burns and a cut to his throat. 

Rodriguez appeared before Judge Colleen Hyland. 

Rodriguez was preliminarily charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson. He was also charged with residential arson and concealing a homicidal death. 

His next scheduled court appearance is March 19.
