Police had their hands full last night, Aug. 21, following a single-car accident that left one person seriously injured and another in the drunk tank.

Officers responded to an emergency call at 8:44 p.m. In the 5600 block of W. 159^th Street, after a car driven by Philipe Escalona, 28, of 5000 block of W. 159^th Street, ran into the forest preserve along the street. Witnesses called the accident in to police.

According to police, a passenger in the backseat of the car was seriously injured and taken to Christ Hospital.

Escalona was charged with damage to highway structures, open alcohol, no insurance, no driver's license and DUI, after he was taken to the Oak Forest Police department for processing. He is currently awaiting trial.
