OF Native Competing for Title in Hooters International Pageant

Oak Forest native Jessica Hauss, 19, is vying for the crown in the Miss Hooters International pageant that will be televised at 9 p.m./10 p.m. EST Saturday, June 23 on the FX channel.

Oak Forest native Jessica Hauss is enjoying a glamorous taste of a model's life —photo shoots in Miami, pageant rehearsals and the chance to appear on national television.

And it's all happened without her having a shred of experience modeling. But due to an appearance in a corporate calendar for Hooters, where Hauss works full-time, she now is competing against 100 other employees to be Miss Hooters International.

The title is awarded annually to one Hooters Girl during the Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant. During her reign, the winner will be the official spokesperson and personality for Hooters, according to the company's website. She will be featured on Hooters national TV commercials, billboards, Hooters Magazine, Hooters Calendar, as well as represent the brand through various events and charitable initiatives.

Hauss, 19, was selected to compete from her photos from the calendar shoot, which was completely unintentional on her part.

But when the opportunity came, she grabbed it.

"It's awesome," Hauss told Patch from Miami during a phone interview on Tuesday, June 19. "I never thought it would be me here doing this."

In addition to the title, Hauss could win more than $50,000 in cash and prizes. The pageant will air  at 9 p.m./10 p.m. EST Saturday, June 23 on FX.  Supporters can cast their vote for Hauss now in the Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant Viewers Choice and keep up with Hauss' progress on Facebook.

Hauss is a graduate of Tinley Park High School. She eventually wants a career in sports therapy and is pursuing certification at the National Academy of Sports Medicine in Chicago.

She feels very lucky to have the experience. "Girls all over the world would love to be where I am," Hauss said. "I just really think all my hard work and dedication paid off."

So her advice to those other girls?

"Try something new," she urged. "Get out of what you're used to."

Jealous much? There is an unfortunate stereotype to the image of a Hooters Girl. But if this young lady can use it as a stepping stone to a modeling career- good for her.
Have you ever been to Hooters? The servers are trained in customer service and some of the best wait staff you will find. It's a gimmick.
They are not allowed to wear their uniforms outside of the restaurant and the company is very protective of them.

So get a clue. Good for Jessica. i hope she does well.

Go Jessie! We love you! And Julia Stfu her family and friends are very proud of her. I bet If you ever got the opportunity you would jump on it like n e other person youre most likely not pretty enough to even make as the waitress at the table, nor have the personality. And at least oak forest would have a winner in something.

Oak Forest residents do not attend Tinley Park High School Mr. DeVries and I am entitled to my opinion and am not offended by any of these comments. I just wish better more appropriate articles were on Oak Forest Patch....once again I miss Huck!

Some people in Oak Forest most certainly attend TPHS. Good for her.

Right. Just what we need. More dog pictures.
Frankly, I like that there's more news on the site. If you want to know what's actually happening in your town, there's no better time to read this site than now. I'll take actual news over a dog, even a cute dog, any day.

Sadly, haters are gonna hate:( Julia, judging someone that you know NOTHING about shows your true character, not hers. Jessie, you go girl! We love you and we know you have a bright "educated" future ahead. Much love <3

Julia, I deleted your comment as it violates our Terms of Use. The implication of prostitution is offensive in nature.

Thanks,

Wow - can't people just say something like "Julia, it would be nice if you reconsider your position because _____" instead of immediately going to name calling? I would really love to see people working together instead of attacking. I think you would find a better response from Julia - and anyone else for that matter - if you tried to express yourself with kindness.

Just my two cents.

Go Jessica!

It's the people like Julia that give Oak Forest a bad name. High, mighty and quick to judge. As others have pointed out O.F. residents do attend TPHS. Hooters girls are not prostitutes. And I bet Jessica's parents are proud.
Time to change your house coat and feed the cats, Julia.
I bet nobody would want to see you in a bikini.

Bernice - its a bit complicated to follow your logic. On one side, you talk about why OF has a bad rap - that some OF people are quick to judge others. On the other side, you are judging Julia with your comments. Wouldn't you want to set an example of how not to do that? I would expect you would....

Just my two cents - which is now up to four cents on this page. :-)

Jason- that's three e's in Berenice. No worries as it happens all the time.

You are correct in that I did make a judgement of Julia. However it was based on her comments regarding Jessica and the insinuation that Oak Forest should be embarrassed. She even went so far as to drag Jessica's parents into it with a poor attempt at what I could only guess was sarcasm. Her ignorance came through further with the erroneous statement that Oak Forest kids don't attend Tinley Park High School. And if you read all of the comments, one of hers was deleted because it violated Patch's terms of use in that an implication of prostitution is offensive in nature.
It is based on these facts that I judge Julia. I wouldn't say that was quick.
And I am going to go out on a limb and say that I may have hit the nail right on the head.
I should have set an example. You are correct. I am afraid her initial comment and the one that followed set the tone and I was sucked in. Shame on me.

The next time I encounter someone speaking nastily about a subject which they have no clue I will be more polite while pointing it out to them.

So there is my six cents. And between the two of us we still don't have enough for a cuppa joe.

But I still disagree that my judgement was quick-

If an editor deletes a comment because it's offensive in nature, but includes the basic contents of the comment in their deletion post, does it really do any good to delete it?

Hi, Nancy.

I find it important to clarify why someone's comment was deleted. The particular commenter had several in the thread, so I wanted to be clear on which one it was, and why it was removed. By clarifying which comment and why the material was against our Terms of Use, my hope was that a similar comment or type of comment would NOT appear in the thread again.

Hope this helps.
Lauren
