Last Chance to Read to Therapy Dogs at Acorn Library
The Acorn Public Library will host two therapy dogs on Saturday, Nov. 24, starting at 2:30 p.m. Readers ages 7 and up can sign up for 10-minute time slots to read to the dogs.
Calling all kids, the Acorn Public Library is bringing in two very special pups and they want to help students improve their reading abilities.
This Saturday, Nov. 24, Waylon and Quincy, a pair of therapy dogs, will trot into the Acorn Public Library at 2:30 p.m. The duo will welcome all readers age 7 and up to read to them in 10-minute blocks. Readers can sign up at the library for a time slot.
Readers must be on time for their reading appointment or it will be forfeited. For more information, contact the Acorn Public Library at (708) 687-3700.

Seriously,,,reading to a dog, to improve reading skills. One is going to seriously improve their skills in a ten minute block? I would say the kids would rather play with the dog! About the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of!!!

Darnell, in order to become competent readers children have to practice reading. A lot. For many, this can be nerve-racking until they gain confidence. When children are permitted to read to a therapy dog, they are allowed to practice in a non-judgmental environmental, have the opportunity to learn more about therapy dogs and the amazing skills they possess, and just get to engage in a fun activity for a short period of time. Hopefully, the children will realize they can gain these skills and confidence reading to anyone or anything, anytime-whether it is with a parent, a pet, a sibling or a stuffed animal. I think that is hardly "ridiculous."
