Teen Nite Club Coming to Oak Forest? Maybe

The Oak Forest City Council Tuesday will consider a special use permit for Oxygen Teen Nite Club, which would be located at 5200 W. 159th Street. The club would offer teens a place to hang on weekends.

Teens across the Southland could soon have a new spot to hang out on the weekends, if the Oak Forest city council approves an amendment and special use permit for a teen night club at 5200 W. 159th Street in Oak Forest.

Oxygen Teen Nite Club, which would be located in the former Del Rocks, would be open Friday and Saturday nights, along with special occasions, for teens to gather, socialize and dance.

The owner of the potential club, James Marcanio—who also owns At the Office, a bar in Crestwood—notes that there are several similar clubs in the northwest and western suburbs, although Oxygen Teen Nite Club would be smaller than those. The club would serve teen-friendly beverages during business hours, although no food is planned at this point.

The city council will vote to approve or deny the text amendment and special use permit tonight, during it's Tuesday, Dec. 11, meeting.

Check back Wednesday to learn how the aldermen voted.

I'm torn on this. maybe instead of a "night club" it should be more of a coffee house, safe place for kids to hang out and write, or do art, and things of that nature. Night clubs for teens is not the best idea. Look up photo's of girls that go to Zero Gravity and tell me that's the type of thing we need in our town.

Good luck with this one. There are reason that so call "teen clubs" are not in the Southland and I can name a few reasons why, Harvey, Markham, Dixmore, Country Club Hills, Southside of Chicago.

Typical thinking of a racist. When someone calls them on their racism, turn around and throw it right back at them.

The ones that cry racism are the ones that practice it the most. But not in plain sight! They hide behind the curtain and point fingers at others. If the shoe fits Vera,,insert in that big mouth!

From Dictionary.com:

racism

noun

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

So glad Vera, that you demonstrated you've mastered the ability to copy and paste! It proves that even the simplest of tasks can be mastered by the simplest of minds. Dm's comment in no way correlates to the definition. No where did he make reference to ethnicity, culture, superiority, hatred or intolerance. What he is referring to in generality is that at one time or another, all these towns and area, had trouble with teen clubs in terms of drug, gangs, fights and violence. I remember the stories being published in the print media, do you? Or are you so blinded by your proficient need to race bait and play the race card accusatorily that it has become your M.O.? Obviously it has as your responses display the lack of gelatinous grey matter located between the earlobes of that bone head of yours!

Darnell, look at the demographics of the towns Dm listed:

Harvey: 79% African-American
Markham: 78% African-American
Dixmoor: 57% African-American
Country Club Hills: 91% African-American

I'll stand by my original comment.

One more place for ghetto dirtbags to go and cause trouble with kids that just want fun. I predict violence, a rise in juvenile criminal activity and Oak Forest supplying the neighboring youth with a place to get out if control. Just wait and see. Come closing time, all the problems that started and crescendo there will pour into the local community after. I'm seeing teen fights in various surrounding neighborhoods. Also, this may attract those that prey on innocent teens looking for a good time. i.e. drug dealers, gang bangers, pedophiles and various miscreants from outside the community.

Hey Oak Forest, great idea! While we're at it, lets' get more Section 8 housing, currency exchanges, title loan shops, pawn shops, and convenience stores. Seriously, it's like they're destroying the town on purpose. It's really sad. As far as "teen" club, the cops will be there constantly breaking up gang fights and other ghetto/trailer trash trouble. Only a matter of time a shooting occurs. Good luck with that.

they should vote not to allow a night club for teens. Maybe someone should go and show them photos of other teen "night clubs" and what goes on. i hope someone's got numbers on the crime, std, teen pregnancy, and rape to present.

Dumb idea. Why because its going to bring in local teen thugs, gangs, fighting, create more peer presure for drug use, and most likely teen sex. Not a good idea! if people need a place to go consider going to a teen center like the bridge teen center where its more of a refuge and has christian beliefs and good morals not how much money can we make on these kids.

@rick T, I hope your comments were addressed to the mayor and the trustees and NOT the citizens of Oak Forest. @sean Knapp that should be the slogan for Iak Forset. From the 159th and Cicreo ghost town to the boarded up "down town" A teen night club won't get us the taxes oak forest needs. Average yearly salary for an Oak Forest family is over 60K. Oak Forset residents are not hurting, but for some reason the town is.

Kids are going to occupy their time with something, and I'd rather they occupy a safe, supervised business than a multitude of other things they can (and do) do. This is also better than the (3rd, 4th?) failed bars that used to be there.

This directed twards Ronald and any one else that has qustions about the owner of the new proposed teen club !! I dont now this person one an imediate level but people close to me do !! Heres some fun facts !
Did u know he holds a benifit every year for the American Cancer society and donates 100 % of the proceeds to the fondation ? Not 10% of the money all of it cuz thats all the state requires u too do !! He also is in voled with Big Bikes Helping Little Tykes !! This is a group who rasies money for kids who are fighting cancer and sends them to a summer camp where a kid can be a kid ! On the 1st year of being involed he help rasie an additional 20,000 dollars to add to their fondation .. He also holds a memorial run to rasie money for familys and chidren in need ! A member of the Oak Forest youth group was also saying how the owner in the teen club was going to become involed with D.A.R.E and Snowball !!!

First of all, you people are as ignorant as they come....I might just go out on a limb and say FLAT OUT DUMB...This man owns a successful construction company for the last 10 years and a restaurant/sports bar in Crestwood that he currently holds a State of Illinois Liquor and Gaming license for. These are two of the most difficult licenses to obtain...If any of you ignorant morons knew anything, you'd know that the State of Illinois does an extensive background check before they approve a Liquor or Gaming License!!!!! THEY DO NOT APPROVE CONVICTED FELONS!!!! You people obviously have absolutely no faith in the people running the town of Oak Forest or your state. Maybe you should think about moving....either that or get off your LAZY FAT REAR ENDS and go to a town meeting and express your concerns there where your voice can be heard instead of spreading false rumors and damaging a hard working man's reputation, one of which none of you know personally. As far as your opinions on whether or not this venture will be successful is just another uneducated spew of ignorance and jealousy. Do your homework before you get on here and embarrass yourselves. Everybody knows what opinions are like.....I don't need to say it.
