Former Sandburg Cashier, Oak Forest Resident, Pleads Not Guilty to Theft
Cheryl Becker, 54, pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony theft in a Bridgeview courtroom this week, denying that she stole more than $9,600 in cash deposits.
An Oak Forest woman charged with two counts of felony theft has pleaded not guilty, according to court records.
Police say Cheryl L. Becker, 54, of the 15600 block of Vista Drive in Oak Forest stole two cash deposits from Carl Sandburg High School in late August where she worked as a cashier, totaling $9,215.70.
Becker is out of custody on $15,000 bond. She is being represented by attorney Raymond P. Garza.
Consolidated High School District 230 began an internal forensic audit of money handling after three women were accused of stealing $10,000 in cash from the school’s cashier office on Sept. 5. Becker had alerted police that the women had taken the money, leading to all three being arrested that day and the money was recovered, according to a release from the Orland Park Police Department. Those women are scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 12.
The results of that audit led police to believe Becker had taken cash deposits meant for the bank of $5,179.55 on Aug. 20, and $4,036.15 on Aug. 29, according to a release from the district.
Becker is scheduled back to court on Jan. 10 of next year.
