District 142 Schools on Soft Lockdown

Forest Ridge District 142 schools are on soft lockdown, following police activity near 147th and Oak Park Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Forest Ridge District 142 schools are on soft lockdown Thursday afternoon, after police activity in the area.

A shooting near a Tinley Park 7-Eleven led police on a manhunt into Oak Forest. One man is in custody in connection with the incident that happened near 167th and Oak Park Avenue.

Outside doors are locked and no one is allowed into the school buildings; students are also kept indoors during the soft lockdown, according to a source in the district administrative offices.

The district acted on its own volition with the soft lockdown. It was not recommended by police. Though the school day had ended, the district was acting with after-school activities in mind.

Lock downs need to end. It creates a fish-in-a-barrel scenario. If a criminal wants to hurt people, it is easier if they are all in one place and defenseless.
