Cold Hands, Warm Hearts: Acts of Kindness after a Snowstorm
Do you know someone who took the time to help out a neighbor after the snow this week? Someone who braved the cold to make someone's life easier? I sure do.
I noticed it when I went to walk the dog one last time Tuesday night. After our first significant snowfall of the season, my little Honda Civic suffered a fate not for those with front-wheel drive.
She was plowed in.
A mound of snow reached mid-way up the rear bumper. In front? No better. As a renter with no shovel (hey! storage space is limited!), I quickly realized I'd most likely be stuck in my apartment the next day. But hey, there are worse things that could happen.
Just an hour later, though, I was chatting with my significant other and casually mentioned my predicament during our conversation recounting our days. We exchanged goodnight wishes and then my pit bull Huck and I hopped into bed.
The next day on our morning walk, I noticed that my car! She was pulled from her snowy pile! Every inch around her was shoveled! And her back tires would easily make it over the tiny mounds of snow left behind from a very thorough shovel job.
That boyfriend came by while I was snoozing away the night before, and cleared my car of all traces of snow. What a wonderful surprise.
There are others like me: those not as prepared as they should be for a Chicago winter. Those who don't own a shovel, and regularly run out of windshield wiper fluid. Those who need help clearing their car, and de-icing their sidewalks.
And luckily, there are those like him, who step up and help out when needed.
