Ald. Laura Clemons (1st Ward) asks that all dog park supporters attend a public hearing Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., where officials will hear public feedback, suggestions and input on the future use of the property.

The Forest Preserve District is working toward the goal of using some of their underutilized space for recreational activities, and dog friendly parks are high on their agenda, due to the increasing interest of taxpayers and residents, Clemons wrote in an email to residents.

The committee has been in talks with the forest preserve district to determine the best possible location for a dog park. Early on in the process, residents were divided on the hospital location. For residents living near the proposed area, their concerns range from noise, to dog attacks, to vehicle traffic, to you guessed it, the smell of Spot's droppings. Other residents were concerned about disturbing wildlife in the area.

Since that discussion in late-June, Clemons and supporters have considered several other locations, including a two-acre spot at 158th Street and Central Avenue, near grocery.

The hospital location would be a better fit for the park than other suggested locations, Clemons wrote.

"If the Forest Preserve chooses Oak Forest for their location, we would have much more open space than is available at any of the other city or Park District locations," Clemons wrote. "The District needs to hear us—they need to hear that we are a hard working and dedicated group who are willing to do the work, donate our funds to the project and are willing to work with them to see the park become a reality.

"I will be attending to show our support and commitment for a dog friendly park in the area.

"The more support there is, the more consideration we will receive from the District."
