16 Years in Prison for Jewelry Store Robber: Court Watch

Also, a Cook County judge refused to lower the bond of a former deputy fire chief accused of attempted rape and murder in Tinley Park.

One of four men accused of robbing an Orland Park jewelry store more than a year ago pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to court records.

Darrin Carter, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery. As part of the deal, 16 additional felony counts, including aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint and robbery, were dismissed.

In addition to the 16-year stint, Carter is set to spend three years on parole upon his release and pay $394 in court costs. He has been in custody on $500,000 bond since he was arrested days after the robbery and will receive credit for 441 days he spent in county jail.
